Aesthetics Q&A

What is aesthetics?

Aesthetics is a branch of medicine that involves using cosmetic techniques and skincare products to enhance your appearance and improve skin health.

At Legacy Health & Wellness Clinic, Dr. Ogbonna takes an integrative approach to aesthetic procedures, tailoring your care plan to your beauty concerns and goals.

What types of aesthetics are available?

There are many different types of aesthetics to treat common signs of aging. Legacy Health & Wellness Clinic offers the most popular aesthetic treatments: Botox and fillers.

Botox and fillers are injectables that smooth fine lines and wrinkles, restore lost volume, and contour the midface.

Botox

Botox is a well-known neuromodulator that softens fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the muscles underneath. The medication interferes with the nerve signals that tell muscles to contract. When the muscles can’t move, the skin above can’t crease. Botox is effective at smoothing existing wrinkles and preventing new lines.

Fillers

Fillers are thick substances that mimic the hyaluronic acid (HA) in your skin. HA keeps your skin nourished and responsive. With a gel-like consistency, fillers plump up lines and creases. They can also increase the size of thin lips and sharpen your facial contours.

Legacy Health & Wellness Clinic offers telehealth consultations for patients interested in learning how Botox and fillers can rejuvenate their skin.

What kinds of wrinkles can aesthetics treat?

Aesthetics like Botox and fillers can treat different types of wrinkles, including:

Dynamic wrinkles

Botox softens dynamic wrinkles, also called expression lines. Most dynamic wrinkles form in the upper one-third of your face, particularly around the eyes and forehead. Crow’s feet, forehead lines, and bunny lines (around the nose) are the most popular treatment areas.

Static wrinkles

Static wrinkles develop when your skin loses volume. Hyaluronic acid, fat, tissues, and underlying bone support your skin. As you age, this volume breaks down and causes your skin to sag.

Deep creases may develop in the lower half of your face, as well as nasolabial folds and drooping jowls. Dermal fillers plump up static wrinkles to reduce visible signs of aging and restore your skin’s youthful appearance.

If you have dynamic and static wrinkles, Dr. Ogbonna can combine Botox and fillers for a comprehensive treatment that addresses all your concerns.

What can I expect during treatment with aesthetics?

Botox and filler injections are in-office aesthetic treatments at Legacy Health & Wellness Clinic. Injections only take a few minutes. Redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site are common side effects that typically subside within hours of your treatment.

While dermal fillers offer instant results, Botox takes about 3-7 days* to settle into your skin. Both treatments provide temporary results. Botox usually lasts for 3-6 months, and fillers offer results for 6-12 months or more*.
